The suggestion by Canada's Health Minister, Jean-Yves Duclos, that the unvaccinated pay higher healthcare premiums is a good start, but it doesn't go far enough.
Accordingly, I would like to propose three new acts of Parliament for Canada's new Liberal Government to enact:
1) THE FAIR PREMIUM ACT:
Overweight people make inordinate demands on the healthcare system. So do smokers. So do alcoholics. Whether they admit it or not, those who continue to smoke, abuse alcohol, or remain obese, are doing so by choice.
The Fair Premium Act would require all smokers, drinkers, and those with a BMI over 25 to register with the Federal Government. These irresponsible Canadians will be charged healthcare premiums triple the normal rate, as will unvaccinated Canadians. To insure compliance, anyone in these groups who fails to register could be denied healthcare if they become sick.
2) THE CONTINGENT CARE ACT
Hospitals are full of people who have done stupid things. Such people take up hospital beds that might be needed by those who are ill through no fault of their own.
Accordingly we need yellow armbands to identify all unworthy hospital patients, such as the following:
-those who are in hospital because of a drug or alcohol overdose,
-those who are in hospital because of a failed suicide attempt,
- those injured in traffic accidents who weren't wearing a seatbelt,
-those who are injured after being foolish enough to stay with an abusive partner,
-those injured in workplace accidents who failed to follow all recommended WCB safety procedures,
-those injured in bicycle accidents who forgot to wear a helmet,
-cardiac patients who had a heart attack after eating a second piece of cheesecake on their birthday.
This legislation would make medical care for all such individuals contingent on the availability of hospital beds. Any hospital patient wearing a yellow armband could be turfed out of their hospital bed at a moment’s notice, should it be required by a more worthy patient.
3) THE RESPONSIBLE SENIORS ACT
Though it is not generally known, on average, Canadians consume about 30% of their total life-time hospital care during their final year of life.
This program would make it possible for responsible seniors to avoid overburdening the healthcare system.
Any senior who feels they are approaching their use-by date could apply for this new senior's benefit.
Any qualifying senior would be given a free one-way air passage to Inuvik in January. From there, they will be given a free tour to see Canada's last surviving polar bears. Then they will be escorted to their own private ice-floe, and given a free bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch to help them on their way.
Any responsible senior who serves Canada in this way would have an ICU bed named in their honour.
There you go, Jean-Yves Duclos. A full legislative agenda to enact the Liberal Party's version of a fair, inclusive and compassionate medical system. With this legislative agenda, the Liberal Government can continue to under-fund health care but still guarantee that those who are young, healthy and righteous will always have access to a hospital bed, should they need it.
Not much to comment on this one, just a great article. You covered everything, so my mind is blank. This post is perfect and most importantly truthful, truth is something the government often ignores. Glad you don't, as it is nice to have some real information, not bullshit the government force-feeds you. I have gag reflexes Trudeau, calm down.
