Our Provincial Health Officer, Bonnie Henry, is actively encouraging everyone to get their seasonal flu shot:
Before you do that, you might want to look at this:
Here’s the abstract for that study:
The study doesn't say that flu vaccines for adults are bad in general, only offering a strong caution that flu vaccination increases your risk of becoming infected with coronavirus by 36%.
The caution on that data is that it predated COVID and was referring to the four types of coronavirus flu circulating at that time. The COVID coronavirus is similar enough it’s very likely to behave the same as other coronaviruses. This is particularly true of the new Omicron Variant, which has incorporated a chunk of the coronavirus flu in its genome.
You need to make up your own mind on this, but I would remind you of two additional pieces of information:
1) Because of all the masks and social distancing, scientists are expecting we will see very few cases of seasonal flu again this winter.
2) Because the Omicron Variant of coronavirus is doubling in case numbers every two or three days, there is a high likelihood you will be exposed to it this winter.
All of which probably means you should probably think carefully about whether taking a flu vaccine is a smart thing to do in the middle of a coronavirus pandemic.
What you should also remember is that BC's Provincial Health Officer is a person of strong religious convictions. Early in the pandemic, before there was any scientific information one way or the other, Bonnie developed the strong religious conviction that no early treatment of COVID was possible. She has held fervently and zealously to that ideological position ever since.
Which goes a long way towards explaining why BC is still actively discouraging Vitamin D use as a COVID early treatment or prophylactic measure despite abundant evidence that Vitamin D is highly protective against hospitalization or death from COVID.
We can be reasonably sure that Bonnie's religious beliefs will prevent her from reading this sacrilegious new e-book by two American medical doctors:
Brian Tyson and George Fareed are two front-line COVID treatment providers. By providing active early treatment to 7,000 Americans afflicted with COVID, they were able to prevent all but four of those 7,000 patients from needing hospitalization for COVID. None of those 7,000 patients died.
In contrast, BC has very religiously NOT provided early treatment to the Province's 221,235 COVID cases, with the result BC has seen 12,351 hospitalizations, and 2,369 deaths.
I'm sure Bonnie Henry is a very nice person. That said, I would humbly suggest that a religious zealot is perhaps not your best source for COVID advice.

PS: Thankyou Joy for the passing on the research data re flu shots!
