Canada's state-run media, AKA the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, did not report on a shameful incident that took place in Parliament yesterday. Fox News did.
What has Canada come to when the only way to find out what's happening in Canada’s Parliament is to tune into an American Network? Every Canadian should watch this:
I remember an Irving Layton Poem from decades ago. Layton mused that if Hitler had been required to address his people naked, "bollocks in the wind and all," people would have recognized him as just another animal, not so different from all the other animals, and refused to follow him into madness.
Justin Trudeau might as well have been naked in Parliament yesterday. He certainly let it all hang out. A man so desperate to cling to power that he accuses a Jewish Member of Parliament, the granddaughter of holocaust survivors, of being a Nazi-sympathizer. He didn't even have the decency to apologize. He ran away. Again.
Justin Trudeau has sullied the office of Prime Minister. He has divided the country, and made Canada the laughingstock of the world.
For the good of the country, he should resign now.
PS: Here’s the Aussie version. Here’s a British take on Justin’s authoritarianism. I don’t use the idea of a global ‘laughingstock’ lightly.
PS: Perhaps readers can help me find that Irving Layton poem, which has to be at least forty years old. Though the poem did have the word ‘bollocks’ in it somewhere, the full line I’m wanting to quote may have been :”Arse to the wind and all.” The poem’s name might have been ‘The Naked Animal” or “A Simple Animal.” Are there any Layton fans out there? After forty years my memory is a little sketchy.
I have not been able to find the poem, but at least I have learned a little about Layton. One of his quotes is rather ironic now: “In Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Canada has at last produced a political leader worthy of assassination.” Only the name has changed.
