Where do you get your assumption from? Has China stated something to that effect that is via state media (evidential) or is it just a personal assumption based on...?

I would make the argument that China can't afford to do nothing. China is the largest trading partner of 2/3 of the countries in the world. It is heavily dependent on maintaining those exports - arguably far more dependent on trade than America is.

Abandoning Venezuela without any pushback would send a very bad signal to its other trading partners, particularly those in Latin America. (I hear the Venezuela President today saying her country won't give up trading with Russia, China, or Iran. I have to suspect she wouldn't say that without talking to China first...)

All that said, I don't expect China to respond precipitously, or in any showboat fashion. Simply refusing to approve any new American rare earth export licenses would be sufficient to send a strong message - even if it took a month before the US realized what had happened.

Good review of their options. The US media is ignoring China at the moment, better for the upcoming shock? I guessed it's Taiwan. Seems to fit better than anything else for the type of downturn that stocks made the last time we had this cycle in '87, and fits the general requirement for their creating this problem with a solution already in mind. It also fits in the NWO that has America all together and China on that end:

Though it would be emotionally satisfying for China to take Taiwan by force, I think China would much prefer to win Taiwan over to its side voluntarily. Defeating the US economically is probably the best way to achieve said goal. That said, turnabout is fair play.

Good analysis. I see China monkeying with the US dollar, more so than any "kinetic" response (funding guerillas, Iran, etc.), but that's just me. The articles I've read so far all mention how the Russian/Chinese defences all failed and/or are garbage, since they didn't trigger during Trumpys attack. If that is true (they didn't see the US coming), I would suspect it's because they were turned off or the operators were taking an extended coffee break.

BTW...Happy New Year!

And a Happy New Year to you too.

I suspect Maduro was sold out by someone in his inner circle, and that's why there was no air defence. (We know from Ukraine that Russian air defence is normally very good.)

Moonofalabama has always been an incredibly insightful blogger. Today's post is no exception: https://www.moonofalabama.org/2026/01/why-might-makes-right-is-dangerous-for-all-of-us.html . Bernard argues that, in the past, the US at least pretended to act on idealistic motives - defending democracy, women's rights, - that sort of thing. Now America is simply and obviously acting on "Might Makes Right."

When a nation abandons its ideals, it encourages its people to do the same. That's when the real in-your-face ugliness starts.

I read MoA from time to time as well. Good stuff there. I agree with your Might is Right assessment. 2026 is loading on the Hot Sauce and it's only Day 7!

No Peace Prize for you, Donald!
