Complete agreement from me, Bruce. We still lack a comprehensive explanation of the excess deaths among the young.

I estimate it's about 50 young Canadians dying in excess every week. I presume these are deaths of despair (suicide or drug- and alcohol-related), but even the official stats for those don't tell the whole story.

Like you, I believe Canada's approach has been a net cost, even if we managed to prolong the lives of some octogenarians by a few months or a year.

I expect young deaths to remain elevated long after the lockdown effects fade away, and possibly increase substantially over the next several years. There sure are lots of "sudden and unexpected" deaths happening to young and otherwise healthy people. It seems to be a side effect of something else that happened in the last couple of years, but I just can't put my finger on it.
