There was a great kerfuffle a few weeks ago about a Chinese ‘spy balloon’ drifting across the United States. The truth is, the Chinese have no need for ‘spy balloons.’ Everything China needs to know about America and the West is freely available on the internet.
China follows American and Western media very closely, tracking both mainstream media and alternative media. They know far more about American Government actions and intentions than the average American does.
Here’s what China knows about America.
The Demonization of Russia:
China can see that Russia has been demonized in the American press for almost a decade, starting with the Russia-gate hoax.
China knows that Russia only sent troops to Ukraine after 8 years of deliberate American provocations, starting with the US-engineered Maiden coup in 2014.
They can see that Vladimir Putin, the democratically-elected leader of Russia, is routinely vilified in the Western press as a ‘dictator.’ They see Hillary Clinton urging Russians to assassinate their national leader. What must the Chinese think, seeing American politicians urging the assassination of the elected leader of a major power?
They see America ready to fight to the last Ukrainian to try to bleed and destabilize Russia.
They’ve seen all this, which I suppose has prepared them for what is happening now.
The Demonization of China:
China can see that it is now being demonized a la Russia.
They see the US Government elevate an errant weather balloon into an international incident - with the US even shooting down three American balloons in an effort to keep the issue in the headlines a little longer.
They see a US general predicting that America will be at war with China by 2025 - and a US politician concurring.
They see, three years on, the US Government belatedly deciding that COVID leaked from a Chinese lab.
They get it. They recognize the demonization, and they know what comes next.
They know that the US will keep trying to provoke a war between China and Taiwan, hoping to bleed China in Taiwan the same way they are bleeding Russia in Ukraine.
Vassal States:
China reads the media of all Western countries. When they see the Canadian press suddenly full of stories of ‘Chinese police stations’, and ‘Chinese interference’ in Canadian elections, and the American military shooting down a ‘suspected Chinese spy balloon’ over Canada, they can tell the Canadian people are being groomed to fear and hate China. It must now be obvious to the Chinese that Canada has become a client state of America.
When China hears that Norway participated in the Nordstream bombings, that Sweden cannot report on its Nordstream investigations because of ‘national security concerns’, that Germany cannot even demand a UN investigation the into the Nordstream sabotage, it must be clear to China that the countries of Europe are now vassal states of America.
Small wonder China has poured so much energy into BRICS and the Belt and Road Initiative. Small wonder they are actively exploring alternatives to the US dollar. Small wonder China is considering a defense pact with Russia. Small wonder China is actively seeking allies in Africa and South America to be ready for a time when the collective West is bullied into attacking China economically and/or militarily.
The Non-Agreement-Capable West
China knows the US made a verbal agreement with Russia not to extend NATO to the former Warsaw pact countries, and has since broken that agreement multiple times.
China has undoubtedly followed the interviews with Merkel, Hollande, and Zelensky where they admitted to signing the Minsk accords with no intention of keeping the peace - that the accords were only a way to buy time to build a Ukrainian military strong enough to take all of Ukraine by force.
Like Russia, China has now figured out that the West cannot be trusted to keep any agreements it makes - which makes any and all negotiations with the West utterly pointless.
China has been quite circumspect and subdued in its diplomatic statements in the decades since Nixon visited China way back in 1972. No longer. Consider this statement from a recent Chinese offering entitled US Hegemony and Its Perils.
“The history of the United States is characterized by violence and expansion. Since it gained independence in 1776, the United States has constantly sought expansion by force: it slaughtered Indians, invaded Canada, waged a war against Mexico, instigated the American-Spanish War, and annexed Hawaii. After World War II, the wars either provoked or launched by the United States included the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the Kosovo War, the War in Afghanistan, the Iraq War, the Libyan War and the Syrian War, abusing its military hegemony to pave the way for expansionist objectives. In recent years, the U.S. average annual military budget has exceeded 700 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 40 percent of the world's total, more than the 15 countries behind it combined. The United States has about 800 overseas military bases, with 173,000 troops deployed in 159 countries.”
I haven’t heard rhetoric that strident from China since the time Chairman Mao was in power. The gloves are off. China is totally pissed and they don’t care who knows it.
America’s State-Controlled Press:
China sees very clearly the extent to which North America’s mainstream media outlets have become state propaganda outlets. They know that three weeks after Seymour Hersh’s bombshell charges on the Nordstream attacks, the New York Times is still suppressing the story - even after Hersh’s charges have been openly discussed at a UN Security Council debate. (The Chinese must envy the extent of the US Government’s control of the media!)
China realizes that America’s much-vaunted ‘press freedom’ is past tense, and that they should not expect a massive groundswell of American opposition to war with either Russia or China.
Reluctantly, China is now preparing itself for just such a war.
