"Invertebrate life-form" - I love it! My sentiments exactly. My disappointment and disgust with his non-leadership and utter hypocrisy go very deep, considering that I supported the NDP my whole adult life. We who were profoundly offended by the discrimination and ostracism we faced due to a personal health choice based on careful scrutiny and consideration of the options are prone to say we'll never forget. And it's true. We never will forget your disgraceful compliance with the infringement of human and citizen rights, Jagmeet Singh. Your party stood for something more noble at one time.
Another thought: although the freedom convoy commission is unlikely to sink its teeth into the Liberals, and the legacy media will continue to demonize freedom and its supporters, at least there will be a public record for future generations to review, should they do choose.
I feel hope that the National Citizens Inquiry, with Preston Manning leading the charge, will make some progress on this https://nationalcitizensinquiry.ca/
The NDP have also called for a review, but I see them as little more than the Liberals' little sibling with minimal impact overall.
I haven't seen the CPC weigh in on the question of an inquiry.
We also need a national inquiry into excess deaths. (I've been hounding my MLA (Mitzi Dean) and my MP (Randall Garrison) on this. The former doesn't respond to my emails anymore, but the latter did reply to request clarification.)
In the short term, the National Citizens Inquiry is much better than nothing. There's some possibility that the Inquiry will uncover one or other information bombshell that Canada's mainstream media may be forced to report. But, other than that, the mainstream media will work hard to ignore the Inquiry. An official Royal Commission would be ever so much harder for Canada's mainstream media to ignore...
I still think that you have the wrong idea. I still think that the government--any government-- isn't interested in finding out what happened, what went wrong, or how to do anything better. They are only interested in keeping themselves in the government, so they will do what is necessary to look like they have done "the right thing," or at least "something" or "as well as possible given the circumstances, the state of knowledge," etc etc.
I did point out that risk. In the US, there's a pronounced split within Republicans which means some in Congress will be willing to dig into data that is very embarrassing to the US Government.
In Canada, the NDP is supposed to be part of the loyal opposition. If they acted together with Conservatives they could certainly pass a bill authorizing a Royal Commission. The problem is they are complete cowards. (For sure, the Liberals won't do it!)

We need the same record on the Covid response.
