Bruce,

I agree that Canada should leave NATO. In a reality-based world, NATO would not exist. It would have disbanded after the fall of the U.S.S.R. As we know, that didn't happen. I don't see Canada ever leaving, though. I suspect it wouldn't be allowed. America IS NATO. It was a means to control Europe and (to some extent) Canada. As Lord Hastings Lionel Ismay (NATO’s first Secretary General) once said "NATO was created to keep the Soviet Union out, the Americans in, and the Germans down.”.

At this point, the Soviet's are out and the Americans are still in. Even thought Germany is now unified, IMO, it couldn't find an exit with a map and a flashlight, given today's current social and political climate.

I would agree it's a big ask, especially given how much propaganda has been done about 'aggressive' Russia. (Never mind that America would never in a million years allow Chinese missiles on Mexican soil, which would be a rough equivalent.)

If I were to play devil's advocate, the only argument I could make is that NATO membership probably makes it less likely that Canada will be invaded by the US. (And, realistically, the US is the only nation likely to ever try to invade Canada, perhaps in a context of resource shortages.)

I agree on the concept that Canada's NATO membership lessens the chance of invasion by the U.S. Also that the U.S. is the only one to ever invade. IMO, Canada has been a colony all it's existence; first, with the British Empire, then, after WWII, the U.S. The U.S. hold on the world is slipping and China's is ascendant. In regards to Canada, China just has to keep buying up the land, resources and politicians and they win.

If Canada wanted to be really shameless, we could declare to the world that we are finally throwing off the shackles of British and American imperialism. Then we could apply to join BRICS as yet another newly-emancipated former colony.

Ha! That would make a good fiction series ! How about Canada take a page or 2 from Russia and how it turned to domestic sources to supply their economy, after all the sanctions were applied from the Western countries? Oh well, we could post all day about stuff that woulda, coulda, shoulda take place, right?

NATO needs to be abolished and dismantled. NATO is nothing but a U.S. bellicose vehicle for expanding its own hegemony. vassal members just give it a veneer of international legitimacy, when in fact it is used for the benefit of the Petrodollar. BRICS is the future.

Excellent synopsis of Bidens fuck ups, he should be in prison for his corruption with his son and the rest of the US neocon warmongers.

Realistically, Canada's only hope for leaving NATO is if America leaves first. At least some of the people around Trump seem open to that. We can hope.

I suspect Europe would be less aggressive and confrontational in its approach to Russia if the US left NATO - kind of like the little dog that barks so ferociously so long as its big owner is standing right behind it.
