There are parts of what Jeff says that I fully agree with. It is not just foreign governments that caused America's de-industrialization; It was also American politicians. And globalization is often merely worker exploitation exported overseas.
I agree that Trump's goal is worthy. It's the thinking he can make it happen overnight that is reckless and delusional. This morning's stock market crash says a whole lot of investors are convinced that Trump's need for instant gratification is going to break something in the global economy. And once broken, economies are typically slow to heal.
I generally agree with Jeff, and with what Trump is doing as well, but Jeff seems to be too Pro-Trump. Trump can do no wrong in his eyes. I think I'm too cynical and not as trusting. People want someone come along and "save" them from their problems. If they would look in the mirror, they would SEE that person. It's up to us to fix society, not some politician.
Thanks for your postings. I really look forward to reading them.
In some ways, I'm more radical than Trump: I've long believed you should only have free trade with countries that have a decent minimum wage that is enforced. It's asking for trouble to have free trade with a country where the workers are paid a dollar per hour.
I agree with Trump's goal. And tariffs are not a bad strategy. It's the trying to do everything all at once that's going to get Mr. Trump into trouble. The deindustrialization of America happened over a 40-year period. You're not going to fix it overnight.
Good morning, Bruce. Here's another substack I read every day and his take on the tariffs. What do you think of what he says?
